If you have been looking for a specific song but don’t know who sang it or what the song title was, you still have the ability to locate the song based on any lyrics you can remember from it. There are a variety of ways to find song lyrics on the Internet with a few quick searches in order to find the song you are hearing in your head. Finding music lyrics is helpful when you want to download the song for yourself but don’t remember who sang it, can’t quite hear what the lyrics are, need the sheet music in order to sing it or play the song on an instrument, or if there is specific lyrics you want for a song for a party or wedding ceremony, you can also find songs matching those exact lyrics.

Do a simple internet search in order to look up the music lyrics. Type in the exact song lyrics in the search engine, with no other extra words in the phrase and click enter. Even if it doesn’t seem to make sense, such as if the lyrics you remember are a series of words in the middle of a sentence. If no results come up after the initial search, try adding the words “lyrics”, “song lyrics” or “song with” aside from the lyrics you remember and try searching that way. If you have lyrics in your head of a song that are an entire phrase or sentence you can put the whole series of lyrics in quotation marks which may be helpful. Additionally, if you know the artist who sang the song and simply need the lyrics to the song, try searching for the artist with the word lyrics, such as “Muse Song Lyrics.”

Visit a website that is dedicated to helping you find song lyrics or artists based on a series of lyrics you remember. These types of websites provide various ways to look up songs such as by lyrics, song title, artist or band, genre of music, and top lists of songs such as “Top 100 Songs of 2011.” Popular lyrics websites where you can search include lyrster.com and findmusicbylyrics.com. Websites like lyrster.com are best when you know some information about the song such as the song title, the year it came out, or who sang it while findmusicbylyrics.com helps you find a song’s title and artist based on a section of the lyrics that you can remember.

You can also locate song lyrics on video sharing sites such as YouTube. Try searching for the song title or artist on YouTube with the word “lyrics” next to the text. The results shown will be videos created by other YouTube users who have created a video with the audio of the song and the text of the song lyrics on the video, which go slowly enough for you to copy down for yourself. This is sometimes the best way to look for lyrics as you have the chance to immediately listen to the song so you can verify it is indeed the one you were looking for or singing in your head.

If you have been getting bored with listening to the same MP3’s or CD’s over and over again, it may be time to start looking for some new music. In the beginning, it may be difficult to find new music that you enjoy as listening to the radio probably gives you the same music you already know about. By getting creative in your music search, you can utilize various Internet and TV-based resources in order to find new music or new artists and bands that you will love, but would not have heard of otherwise. These techniques of finding music are also helpful if you need certain songs for a special occasion like a wedding ceremony or birthday party, but are not sure the song titles off the top of your head.

Start by looking through the “top lists” of music that has come out recently. This may include “Top 20”, “Top 40” or “Top 100” of a specific year, which may or may not be of specific genres. Some top lists cover all music that has come out in that year, while others will be more specific such as “Top 20 Country Hits of 2011.” Go through the lists and listen to each song individually of the ones you do not recognize. If the lists you are looking at online do not give a sample of the song, you can search for it on YouTube and will more than likely find a copy of the song to listen to it.

Watch music television shows and networks to listen to their newest music while watching the music videos. These include MTV, CMT and VH1 which are provided on cable as well as additional music-only television channels offered on digital cable. Tune in often to catch the latest songs which are coming out by your favorite artists or new and upcoming artists or bands. You can also go on a music or video sharing site such as YouTube and filter the results by date to find the latest songs released.

Read through the latest music magazines and blogs and look up any songs that are mentioned in the articles. Many times, writers will cover new artists and bands or new songs by established artists in the music industry and you can simply search for these songs online to listen to samples of them.

Visit websites that are dedicated to introducing you to new music and artists, such as Pandora and Last.Fm. These types of sites have you create “stations” that are of a specific song, genre of music, soundtrack, singer or band and will then create a music station centered on that song, title, or singer you entered. For instance, if you want to find new songs that are similar to your favorite Adele song, type in either a name of one of her songs, or her name as the station, and it will give you a list of old and new songs following her genre of music. This gives you the ability to find various new songs and new artists who are not always mainstream and would have been otherwise very hard to find.
